Chronic psychiatric disorder affecting ~1% of population. Positive symptoms (hallucinations, delusions, disorganized speech), negative symptoms (flat affect,…eficits (attention, memory, executive function). Pathophysiology: dopamine hypothesis (mesolimbic hyperactivity → positive symptoms, mesocortical hypoactivity → negative symptoms), glutamate hypothesis (NMDA hypofunction). Treatments: first-generation antipsychotics (haloperidol), second-generation antipsychotics (olanzapine, quetiapine, aripiprazole, risperidone), clozapine (treatment-resistant).
